Course Overview:
The Metroman and Speed Tri race course are very flat. Remember that just because there aren’t any hills to climb, there aren’t any hills to descend either! You’re going to have to push to make this one fast!
The swim is an out/back in the ocean. The direction will be determined by the Asbury Park Lifeguards and could change as late as race morning.
The bike course will begin in Asbury on a CLOSED Ocean Ave. and head north on Ocean Ave. The bike couse will have signs and cones on the Bike Lane along Ocean Ave. but will not be closed to traffic through Deal, and Long Branch. The left turn across Ocean Ave. at Lake Takanassee will be directed by the Long Branch Police Dept. You will return on Ocean Ave. and follow several turns through Asbury Park and up Cookman into the heart of Asbury and back to the Transition are for (1) lap. The Intermediate Distance will do (2) laps and the Speed Tri will complete (1) lap before starting the run.
The Run course will leave transition and head directly to the Boardwalk and turn RIGHT. Follow the Boardwalk south through Ocean Grove until you reach the Aid Station clearly marked TURNAROUND. You will now run north, through the Convention Center to the North end of the Boardwalk at the Aid station clearly marked as TURNAROUND. You will now head to the Finish line. All Speed Tri athletes will run through the Finish chute and all Intermediate athletes will run stay to the left of the chute in order to run another lap, (2) laps total for the Intermediate.

July 16th
Packet Pick-up in NYC at SBR Multisports located at 203 West 58th St., NY, NY. Packet pick-up will start at 4pm and end promptly at 7pm. The staff at SBR Multisports will be on hand to answer any of your triathlon training and equipment questions.
July 17th
- Packet Pick-up at Brielle Cyclery on the Boardwalk just steps from the Paramount Theater and the Start/Finish line from 4:00 pm to 7:00pm. Pre registration is required.
- Pre Race Briefings at 4:30pm, 5:30pm and 6:30pm in the Transition Area.

July 18th - Race Day
- 5:00am : Transition area open for set-up
- 5:30am : swim course open for Warm-up
- 6:30am : Intermediate Distance race begins (wave start times to be determined.)
- 7:30am : Speed Tri race begins (wave start times to be determined.)
- 8:30am: First Intermediate finisher anticipated
- 9:30am : Intermediate Distance Awards Ceremony at the Finish Line (TBD)
- 9:45am : Speed Tri RaceAwards Ceremony
- 10:00am: Go reward yourself and enjoy breakfast and a day at the beach. You earned it.
BY CAR

Garden State Parkway south to exit 102 Asbury Park. Follow Asbury Ave/Route 66 approximately 6 miles to Asbury Park. Follow the signs for Asbury Park once you get off the parkway. With no traffic the travel time from the Lincoln Tunnel to Asbury Park is 1 hour 15 minutes.

NJ Turnpike north to exit 7A. Follow I-195 east approx. half an hour to Rt. 18 North. Take 18 North a few miles and exit at "Route 66 - Asbury Park". Follow signs for Asbury Park.
....from South Jersey area
Garden State Parkway North to exit 100-A Asbury Park. Follow Route 66/Asbury Avenue approximately 6 miles to Asbury Park.

The North Jersey Coast Line train schedule for NJ Transit can be found at http://www.njtransit.com Take the train to the Asbury Park station. Approximate time from NY Penn Station is 1 hour 50 minutes. You'll have to change trains at least once if you're coming from Manhattan, so listen for announcements.

Event USAT Info:
This a USA Triathlon Sanctioned Event. Sunset Racing is a USAT Certified Race Director. All rules of the governing body, USAT will be enforced. Please refer to the following USAT link for race rules and USAT policies. Keep in mind, everyone that participates in this event must have an Annual or 1 Day USAT License to participate. 1 Day licenses will be sold at packet pick-up for $10.00, cash or check only. If you have an annual license, you MUST bring your license and a photo ID to packet pick-up.

Transition Area, Body Marking and Timing Chips:
All athletes will have their body marked by race volunteers prior to entering the Transition Area. Please be sure to give the volunteers the correct age and race bib number when getting marked.
The transition area is located in the Parking are in front of the historic Casino/carousel building at the south end of the Asbury Boardwalk and Ocean Ave. and will be accessible to only athletes with a bib/bike # and/or body marking. No outside assistance may enter the transition area. The transition area will CLOSE 15 minutes prior to the start of the 1st Swim Wave. No one will be allowed in transition after that time. You will be given ample time and a countdown to closing via the race announcer and P/A System.
**This race will be chip timed. After the race you will be able to access your timing splits for, Overall time, swim, T1, Bike, T2, and run. Your timing chip will be issued AT PACKET PICK-UP!! DO NOT FORGET YOUR CHIP ON RACE MORNING. All athletes are responsible for the return of their timing chip after they cross the finish line AND THOSE THAT LOSE THEIR CHIP AND/OR FORGET IT WILL BE CHARGED A REPLACEMENT FEE BY THE TIMING CO.
** Each athlete is responsible for crossing each timing mat. Just being in the “general area” of the mat does not always work and could cause the athlete to have incorrect split times or no time recorded at all. Each athlete must ensure a secure fit of the strap when issued your chip.
Packet Pick-up:
Packet Pick-up will be at Brielle Cyclery, just 2 blocks from the race site from 4pm to 7pm on the day before the race. There will be a VIP Race Day Packet pick-up for an additional $15.00 fee. This ensure that each athlete that is set up for VIP be able to get a shirt and goody bag on race day. Only athletes with a photo ID will be allowed to pick up their packet. NO Exceptions!
If you are a USAT member you MUST show a current membership card or you will have to pay the one day license fee. If you forget your card – don’t bother telling us, just pay the $10 one day license fee! This is stated on your registration and registration confirmation and is a USAT rule that we cannot change.
All athletes will receive a swim cap (required to be worn during the swim), a bike number and a run bib number at packet pick-up. You will be assigned a swim wave time as well as pick up your race t-shirt* and a goody bag filled with swag from the race sponsors.
Although we anticipate that the majority of questions are answered right here on the website, nothing can take the place of previewing the course and coming to the packet pick-up Race briefings. Any new additions and/or course changes will be discussed and a physical walkthrough of the start, transition and finish line will be offered by the race directors. * Anyone that signs up inside 21 days from race day may not receive a race t-shirt! There are no exceptions if we run out of shirts. Sign up early and secure your memory!
Finisher Medals and Awards:
All finishers will receive a custom, die cast, finisher’s medal with a custom colored ribbon!
Trophies will be awarded to the top 3 males and the top 3 females overall for the race. (This has changed from 2009!)
The rest of the field will receive a custom plaque, for the top 3 places in each age group. Plaques and trophies will be distributed at the awards ceremony at 10:30 after the race. If you are not present for awards, you may not receive your award.
Refund Policy:
In the event that you are unable to compete in our race, Sunset Racing will permit a transfer of your registration to another of Sunset Racing’s Events, assuming the transfer notification is received 30 days prior to the race that you are registered for. This transfer cannot be to another person and no transfers will be permitted within 30 days of the event.
There are no refunds for race cancellation due to weather or the effects of weather.
